Dog Bites

What is the Law in Connecticut on Dog Bites?

In Connecticut, the owner or possessor of the dog is strictly liable if his dog bites another person and causes the victim to sustain injuries. As long as you were not teasing or tormenting the dog at the time of the attack, you should be entitled to compensation for any injuries that you received as a result of the dog bite or attack. Your compensation can include the cost of your medical bills, any future medical bills that you may incur, pain and suffering and compensation for any scars of illnesses that you sustain as a result of the dog bite.

The American Humane Association estimates that there are nearly 4.7 million dog bites occurring each year in the United States. They estimate that nearly 800,000 of these bites require medical attention and that the insurance industry pays out more than $1 billion in dog-bite claims each year. If you have been injured as the result of a dog bite or attack you may be entitled to monetary compensation.

Often times the victims of dog bites are children. Children are uniquely less able to defend or protect themselves and therefore often times their injuries are significantly worse. As long as your child was not teasing or tormenting the dog at the time of the attack, you and your child should be entitled to compensation for medical treatment required due to the bite or attack.

You only have a limited amount of time to file claim for these types of injuries. If you have been injured by a dog bite in Connecticut it is important that you contact an attorney today. If you continue to wait, you may not be able to recover for your injuries.
