Automobile Accidents

Every year, thousands of people are injured or killed in motor vehicle accidents in the United States. In Connecticut alone, 277 people died in fatal car crashes in 2007 according to a recent study by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

What is the Law in Connecticut on Motor Vehicle Accident Cases?

Connecticut law provides that if the operator of a motor vehicle, such as an automobile, truck, bus or motorcycle, was negligent in the operation of his motor vehicle and his negligent operation causes another person to sustain injuries, the injured person is entitled to bring a claim against the owner and operator of the motor vehicle for all of the injuries, damages and losses that he sustained in the accident.

What Should I do if I am Involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident?

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, you should obtain advice from an experienced motor vehicle accident attorney as soon as possible in order to ensure that your rights are protected. Many times, an insurance company will contact a motor vehicle accident victim and attempt to negotiate a settlement with the victim for an amount of money which is significantly less than the value of the case in order to save the insurance company money. The insurance company may also try to convince you not to call a lawyer. Do not listen to this advice. The reason they do this is because the insurance company knows that the attorney will advise the client not to accept the offer because it is too low. Also, very often, the full nature of the accident victim’s injuries is not known right away. It can take several weeks and sometimes even several months before the full extent of the victim’s injuries is known. For this reason, we always advise our clients not to settle their case with the responsible party’s insurance company too soon so that they can obtain full and fair compensation for all of their injuries. Hopefully this is your first time dealing with a motor vehicle accident, but if it is you can’t possibly know what you may be entitled to. It is very important that you speak with an experienced attorney to discuss the issue so that you aren’t left with only a fraction of what you would have otherwise.

Client Reviews

Attorney Foley spent 8 long years as my lawyer, during that time he was my advocate, my friend, and above all an amazing lawyer. I wanted to write this review because in most cases lawyers are concerned with their payday, but not Michael Foley, though he was able to get me an amazing settlement, he became like part of my family, truly advocating for the best medical care during the long process. MIchael is an absolute Bulldog when it comes to protecting his clients, if you need someone in your corner, who won’t ever give up on your case, and actually listens to your needs, then look no further..
